Steelers Defense set to deal with Newton

As Teresa Varley explains, the Steelers defense has the unattractive task of fixing the problems that have plagued them through their first two games such as allowing a crap ton of rushing yards, big plays, and penalties galore whilst preparing to contain and control Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. The Steelers have some inside information on Newton thanks to safety Mike Mitchell, who played with Newton in Carolina last season.

"“Cam has always been a pocket passer. He wants to beat you from the pocket. He just happens to be an extremely gifted athlete that can run. But Cam is definitely a pocket passer.” – Mike Mitchell"

Ben backs Gilbert

While the rest of us lament on how awful Marcus Gilbert’s play has been so far this season, his quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger still has his back according to ESPN Steelers reporter Scott Brown. Gilbert has been responsible for four sacks so far this season, making him on pace for 32 for the year, including two on Thursday night to Ravens outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil. But, Ben Roethlisberger believes in Gilbert’s ability to rebound and protect him against Carolina’s defensive quarterback hurries.

Former Steelers RB Jonathan Dwyer arrested for domestic violence

If the NFL has one of those signs that read “___ days since last domestic violence arrest” they’re going to have to roll that back to zero. Arizona Cardinals and former Steelers RB Jonathan Dwyer was arrested in Arizona on Wednesday on charges related to domestic violence involving a 27-year-old female and 18-month-old child. According to CBS Sports John Breech, the Arizona Cardinals quickly deactivated Dwyer once news of his arrest came out. What a fun time in the NFL!
