Steelers Biggest Questions Heading Into The Offseason
RB Backup
I’ll admit that losing Blount hurt the team a bit in the backup running back position. Although, I would not have been entirely comfortable with him taking the majority of snaps last Sunday were he still on the team.
Getting kicked off the team was a moral victory for the locker room – something I feel the desperately needed at that point in the season. Not having a plan post-Blount was incredibly stupid by Colbert. Archer would get them no where being used as an up the middle back, they didn’t insert Harris enough in the offense for him to gain his bearings behind that line, and Tate was a huge swing in the dark that fell flat on its face.
Bell should recover just fine from his hyperextended knee during this offseason, but they can’t just leave him to be the only capable back. They will either need to commit to Harris by keeping him on the roster and giving him more reps in training camp, or they will need to look elsewhere for veteran help. Why spend a draft pick when you already have a young backup in Harris, who showed in Week 17 that he could break out a big run (albeit it was called back on a ticky tack holding call that had no affect on the play).
That’s my laundry list for this offseason. Anything you have to add, Steeler Nation?
