The Carolina Panthers defense seemed to have taken a slight step back from last year’s performance during the regular season. The Panthers were the second team in NFL history to enter the playoffs with a losing record but they had the fortune of hosting the playoff game thanks to winning the NFC South.
Cam Newton didn’t set any playoff records on fire with his stat line of 18 for 32 for 198 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He also rushed for 35 yards on seven carries but it was the Panthers defense that really took hold of this game. The Panthers held the Cardinals to 78 yards of offense total, breaking an NFL record.
