The sports world mourns Stuart Scott

When I was a kid, I idolized my father and my Pap. I was at that age when you just know that your parents and grandparents know everything about everything. My Pap read the newspaper cover to cover and I’d only read the sports page. He’d actually take the sports page from me afterwards and quiz me on the content to ensure that I read everything.

In the early 90s, when ESPN and Sports Center were actually worth watching, Stuart Scott was instrumental in feeding me the sports knowledge I couldn’t get enough of. I wanted to know everything that happened in the sports world and I learned it from Stuart Scott. Sadly, Scott passed away at the age of 49 after a long and very brave battle with cancer.

Longtime readers will know that I shared my father’s battle with cancer here and I can sadly relate to what Scott’s daughters are going through right now. To hear Scott’s words in his acceptance speech for last year’s Jimmy V Award at the ESPYs where he describes how instrumental those in in his life who contributed to his fight were in helping him go on gives me comfort in remembering that I did help my dad fight cancer, even by just being by his side. Cancer sucks.

Here we go Steelers! Here we go!
