- “Todd Haley is committed to the run even when it doesn’t work.”
It has been painful. I swear the playbook was one page for a while:
- 1st Down: Run the ball up the middle.
- 2nd Down: Run the ball up the middle or make a short pass to the running back.
- 3rd Down: If 10 or more yards are needed, have QB heave a long pass toward the end zone.
Of course I am exaggerating (maybe). However, if I missed a three and out series, I would ask: “Was it run, run, incomplete pass, punt?” More than 50% of the time (based on a VERY accurate study I did, obviously), my husband would nod his head.
At the beginning of the 2014 season, I was shocked to see a pass on first down in many situations. Of course there was a lot of success with the run game due to Le’Veon Bell. The lack of developed talent for depth at the position became a problem at the end of the season and is one I think they will focus on in 2015. I want to see where this goes.
