Steelers 2015 NFL Mock Draft: 7 Rounds v1.0

The Pittsburgh Steelers have what many, including this contributor, consider to be one of the best receiving corps in professional football. Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant and Markus Wheaton are young, explosive and some of the best play-makers in the league. Even with their strong core of young receivers, Pittsburgh would be wise to solidify their roster behind their terrific trio.
Veteran Lance Moore could be a cap casualty this offseason, Justin Brown is no longer with the franchise and Darrius Heyward-Bey will be an unrestricted free agent this spring as well.
For as many verbal barbs that have been hurled towards the front office and scouts in recent memory, one cannot debate how tremendous they have been at loading and reloading talent into the wide receiver position with mid-late round draft choices.
Although the team has far more pressing needs to fill via this April’s draft, do not be surprised if the Steelers take an under-the-radar prospect like Deon Long.
In spite of his recent injury (broken right tibia and fibula in first season at Maryland in 2013) and transfer riddled collegiate career, Long has turned heads this offseason as more scouts have been interested in the former Junior College All-American (2014: 51 catches, 575 yards and two touchdowns). A good route runner with speed and shiftiness too, Long (6′ 188 lbs.) has the type of frame and skills which would make the Steelers’ front office take notice.
The former Terrapin wowed many at the East-West Shrine Game this past month, and he has the tools which could make him a valuable ancillary piece in Pittsburgh’s passing attack or help out in the return games.
