What We Learned in Super Bowl Weekend in the NFL:
- Jerome Bettis selected for Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2015
- Josh Gordon is not an addict
- Thomas Davis gives inspired speech for Walter Payton Man of the Year award
- Pete Carroll’s balls got too big
- Tom Brady named Super Bowl MVP after throwing two interceptions
Well that was it, the last game of football until August. What a way to end. An NFL season that made Roger Goodell look like an incompetent ass ends with Pete Carroll looking like an incompetent ass and Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are now tied with Terry Bradshaw and Chuck Noll for four Super Bowl victories. Excuse me while I vomit.
HOF Vote
One of the highlights of the Super Bowl week was the Hall of Fame Class of 2015 announcement. After waiting five long years, Jerome Bettis will finally get his gold jacket this summer as he was announced as part of the incoming class. Being inducted this summer along with Bettis will be Junior Seau, Charles Haley, Tim Brown, Will Shield, Mick Tingelhoff, Ron Wolf, and Bill Polian. Getting the snubs were Marvin Harrison, Orlando Pace and Kurt Warner.
This vote, while I’m beyond excited that Jerome finally got in, is an example of how awful the Hall of Fame voting process is. The fact that two “contributors” (Ron Wolf and Bill Polian) can be inducted ahead of players who put their health and futures on the line each Sunday shows that the voting process needs to be changed to put coaches and contributors in a different category, in my opinion. I’m not discounting the contributions those men made to the game, but since they limit themselves to five modern-era inductees, I think they should all be players.
