Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis was the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year award recipient for the 2014 season. In his emotional acceptance speech he challenged the rest of the players in the NFL to “dare to be different” and do something positive in the community to overshadow the negative that is often been the primary focus for this NFL season.

Davis and his wife founded the Thomas Davis Defending Dreams Foundation, which provides and promotes free programs that enhance the quality of life for more than 2,000 under privileged children and their families. He provides two college scholarships to graduating seniors each year who have completed his Youth Leadership Academy Program. He hosts back-to-school drives, Thanksgiving meals, and toy drives for Christmas for underprivileged children in three different states.
