What We Learned in the NFL Scouting Combine Weekend:
- Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota impress at Combine
- Raiders looking to Los Angeles
- Adrian Peterson wants to play for Cowboys
- Brady Quinn trying for an NFL comeback
- Pass rushers dominant at Combine
- James Harrison holding off retirement
The best weekend of the year for us football nerds who love to see what the new rookie class will look like has come. The NFL Scouting Combine has become a bigger production each year but the basics still remain; throwing, jumping, drills, and running. Young football players in skin tight outfits showing their athletic abilities on the football field, what’s not to love about that? Monday will wrap up the Combine drills and then there will be the countless Pro Days for the draft hopefuls to show off their skills one more time before April 30th.
Winston and Mariota don’t suck…yet
So basically all Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota had to do at the NFL Scouting Combine is show up and not completely suck for everyone to fawn all over them the rest of the weekend. Although Winston showed up fat, not as fat as the previous picture that circulated of him, but still weighed in at 231 lbs. He ran his two 40-yard dashes in just under 5 seconds but impressed in his throws to the point where it’s almost assumed now that Tampa Bay will select him with the No. 1 overall pick.
Mariota had a much more impressive showing, running a 40-yard dash at 4.52 seconds, faster than 10 wide receivers at the Combine. He had the fastest 40 time of all 15 quarterbacks to participate in the sprint. The speculation is heating up that the Cleveland Browns are taking a serious look at him, all but assuring that he’s destined to suck bigtime in the NFL. Tough break, kid.
