If the Steelers are unable to retain and acquire personnel help at cornerback, then double-dipping at the position could be an absolute must instead of a luxury for the franchise on draft weekend. William Gay is the only non-question mark who will not be a free agent this spring, and a massive makeover at the position is required. In the event the team takes two cornerbacks, one player who could intrigue the front office is SaQwan Edwards of New Mexico.

A relative unknown outside of the Mountain West Conference, Edwards is a developmental corner who could turn heads over the next couple of months. Edwards possesses an ideal frame, long arms, can play press or zone coverage, good speed, fluid hips and some great ball skills.

The last of which are no surprise, particularly because Edwards played wide receiver until his junior season in Albuquerque. Edwards did a solid job on the defensive side of the ball during the 2013 and 2014 seasons. Overall, he registered 84 tackles, 5.5 TFLs, 2.0 sacks, 16 PDs and three INTs for the Lobos.

Being relatively new to the position will make Edwards a work in progress from a technique standpoint. In addition to improving his footwork and gaining more experience, the type of competition he will face on a weekly basis in the NFL will be much different from what he saw at the college level.

Concerns aside, Edwards would represent tremendous value to a team looking to restock their cupboards at the cornerback position. Carnell Lake could be very pleased if his front office provides him with the raw former Lobo.
