One and done

NFL rookie linebacker Chris Borland shocked the league last week when he announced that after just one season with the San Francisco 49ers, he was retiring from football all together. Borland said he made his decision based on health concerns and that he didn’t want to deal with neurological problems down the road from repeated head trauma.

Borland is even paying part of his signing bonus back, answering critics who said that his “one and done” year in the NFL was nothing more than a cash grab. He said on Sunday on CBS’s Face the Nation that he retired out of health concerns only and that he doesn’t have any regrets.

"“I’m paying back three fourths of my signing bonus. I’m only taking the money I’ve earned. This to me is just about health and nothing else. I never played the game for money and attention. I love football and I’ve had a blast. I don’t regret the last 10 years of my life at all. I’d do it over the exact same way.” – Chris Borland"
