What We Learned This Week in the NFL Offseason:

  • Roger Goodell still knows how to drop the hammer
  • NFL settles concussion lawsuit for $1 billion
  • Romo predicts Super Bowl win for Cowboys
  • Tebow just a camp arm
  • Steelers prepare for NFL Draft

We’re just a few days away from the NFL Draft, this year being held in Chicago instead of New York. I wonder if the Chicago fans will boo Goodell with as much enthusiasm as the New York fans? While we’re still several months away from any actual football action, this is as exciting as the offseason gets with the mocks coming fast and furious and trade rumors swirling around.

Dropping the Ginger Hammer

Early last week the league announced that their NFL & Order: SVU investigation on Dallas Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy resulted in a 10-game suspension. Hardy was found guilty of domestic violence charges, involving guns, by a judge in North Carolina last year. He then got the verdict set aside for a jury trial, to which the victim refused to cooperate for before the charges were eventually dropped.

The NFLPA is appealing the length of the suspension but the league finally did what they should have done from the start with players who have domestic violence history/charges which is suspend the crap out of them and let the player’s union argue on their behalf. Remember this is something that Roger Goodell had the power to do all along to Ray Rice, under the terms of the CBA. He just chose not to.

Hardy apparently is already making friends on his new team, the Dallas Cowboys. On Friday, Hardy got into an altercation with backup defensive lineman Davon Coleman during offseason workouts. According to FOX Sports, the two had to be separated by teammates. I guess at least he’s picking on someone relatively his own size now.
