The Steelers had a surprising evening with Round 1 on Thursday.

There was never a ‘large’ run on cornerbacks, though the Top 3 were taken by the time the 22nd pick rolled around. Nothing surprising there.

What ended up being a surprise was the run on edge rushers that never materialized. Offensive line became a huge factor – something that may or may not have bigger implications later on in the next few rounds.

The lack of trades and teams vying for pass blockers in the early to mid selections in Round 1 allowed for the Steelers to have their choice at either Shane Ray, Randy Gregory, and Bud Dupree.

Of course the Steelers went with Dupree. I’ll get into the good and bad with Dupree and why Steeler Nation is in a tizzy (good and bad) about the pick.

Dupree fills a need at OLB, the second biggest need for the team if you ask those who know such things.

Now that the second and third rounds are upon us on Friday, what might the Steelers have in store?
