Sad banners

The Indianapolis Colts have apparently been putting up sad, participation-like banners for years so it’s strange that it’s just now making a story but, at the same time, it’s still said that this is a thing. Marking the end of OTAs last week the team raised their 2014 banner marking their place in the 2014 AFC Championship game.

The Colts lost that game 45-7 to the New England Patriots who may or may not have been cheating with underinflated balls but that’s beside the point. The team also had banners signifying their place as 2013 AFC South Division Champions and probably a whole rafter full of sad banners.

One could argue that you should only put up a banner for a championship but then there’s this so…If you have the space and fabric I guess you should just go for it. My high school soccer coach made us have a banner-lifting ceremony comprised of just the team for our state championship runners up banner. He even played “We are the Champions” as it rose up the rafters of our gym. True story.
