The Steelers summer vacation is winding down. They’ll be reporting to the dorms of Saint Vincent for the Steelers’ 50th season of training camp in Latrobe in less than two weeks. While the Steelers are enjoying the last of their summer break we’ll be busy looking for mentions of your Black & Gold so we’ve got you covered. Here’s your Steelers Morning Huddle for Friday, July 17th

Crowded WR Group

Bob Labriola continues his series of pre-camp position group breakdowns with this edition centered on the wide receivers. This group is full of talent. There is so much talent here the narrowing down process could get very tricky come the end of August.

There’s no doubt that Antonio Brown, Markus Wheaton and Martavis Bryant are atop of the depth chart and all three of those guys will create matchup challenges for each team on the Steelers’ schedule. That’s three roster spots set in stone. Most likely there will be a fourth on the roster and that’s where it gets tricky.

The Steelers drafted Sammie Coates in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft and there’s a suspicion that he might be initially held back or brought along slowly similar to Martavis Bryant’s rookie season last year.

As far as depth behind those four guys you have Darrius Heyward-Bey, who proved an asset to the team through his special teams contributions. You also have C.J. Goodwin, a tall target which is always desirable and double position guys like Devin Gardner, Tyler Murphy and Dri Archer.

Bizarro Steelers

In Bizarro world, everything is backwards. According to ESPN’s Jason Reid, he compares Bizarro World to how the Steelers will approach the 2015 season. Reid is apparently still hung up on the fact that the Steelers have been known for their dominating defense for as long as anyone could remember.

The problem with that is that their defense hasn’t been all that dominating in quite some time. Instead of being known for the dominating and hard-hitting defense, they were known for a potent offense capable of raking up the yards and scoring tons of points.

This season, the offense doesn’t expect to slow down the pace from last year and hopes to pick up right where they left off, dropping six touchdown games on whoever might cross their path if needed. That will be going on while the defense goes through a youthful transitioning period.

It’s a pretty old narrative to keep harping on, the Steelers haven’t been the Steel Curtain for quite some time and you just can’t ignore it when your quarterback, wide receiver and running back all have the hot hand at the same time. I love Blitzburgh just as much as the next gal but whatever puts wins up is what I’m down with.

I wouldn’t call it bizarre to say that the Steelers will be mostly known as an offensive team for the unforeseeable future. I’d just call it progress.

National Spotlight

Steelers training camp is literally right around the corner. As much as you’ll get daily coverage from the Steelers directly, not to mention our own site here, Still Curtain, the Steelers will be on the national stage for a couple of days during camp.

Teresa Varley reports that on Monday, July 27th Saint Vincent will host ESPN’s NFL Live with host Trey Wingo. He’ll have former Steelers Jerome Bettis, Merril Hoge and Ryan Clark joining him.

The NFL Network is also getting into the mix with training camp reports on the 27th as well as hosing Training Camp Live from Latrobe on Wednesday, July 29th. If you’re heading out to training camp that day, put on your best Steelers gear. We don’t need to see a bunch of Jagoffs in Kordell Stewart jerseys walking around on TV.
