What we learned this week in the first week of NFL training camps:

  • Brady and Goodell prepare to battle in court
  • Sheldon Richardson’s wild ride
  • Wilson and Seahawks agree on contract extension
  • Brandon Boykin joins the Steelers
  • Todd Haley on Snoop Dogg
  • Steelers emphasizing kickoff returns in camp

You have just made it through your last weekend without any kind of football until February. Congratulations. By this time next week we’ll be recapping the Hall of Fame game and heading right into preseason.

Steelers fans shouldn’t expect too many starters to play in the Hall of Fame game this Sunday. They’ll already be without the services of wide receiver Martavis Bryant, who recently underwent a procedure to clear up an infection in his elbow, which will sideline him for about ten days.

Ben Roethlisberger has been receiving a lot of rest so far in training camp, as has a majority of the veteran players. James Harrison is yet to be suited up for a practice, a solid week into training camp. This extra week of preseason and camp the Steelers have will go primarily to the benefit of the younger guys.

The Steelers have already made some roster moves and we’ll be down to the first roster cut before you know it. This extra week the Steelers have been afforded to them thanks to their selection to play in the Hall of Fame game means Tomlin and Co. get an extra week’s worth of work out of guys vying for roster spots, not necessarily for extra work for the starters.

Next: Brady vs. Goodell coming up
