That’s so Jets

Speaking of ridiculous, the New York Jets are already a dumpster fire of a team this season and a meaningful game has yet to be played. Jets starting quarterback Geno Smith will miss the next six to 10 weeks with a broken jaw after being punched in the locker room by former teammate linebacker IK Enemkpali.

NFL Media’s Albert Breer reported the fight was over money Smith was supposed to reimburse to Enemkpali for a football camp Smith never attended and he hadn’t paid the money back yet. The Jets immediately released Enemkpali and he was picked up off of waivers by Rex Ryan and the Buffalo Bills, because of course he would.

The fight sparked constant speculation about whether or not Smith is a capable leader of his team and his own locker room since how could anyone imagine someone coming even within a few feet of punching a quarterback like Ben Roethlisberger, Peyton Manning or hell even Eli Manning in the locker room.

The fact that Tony Romo, Philip Rivers and Eli have never been punched in the face by teammates proves this point alone. Enemkpali wrote a statement released by his representative to apologize for his part in the incident.

"“I apologize to the Jets organization, coaches, teammates and fans. Geno and I let our frustration get the best of us, but I should have just walked away from the situation. I deeply regret and apologize for my actions. It was never my intention to harm anyone. I appreciate the opportunity I had with the Jets.” – IK Enemkpali"

In the mean-time the Jets are pissed off at Smith for getting caught working out during his recovery. ESPN’s Rich Cimini reports that Jets coach Todd Bowles reprimanded Smith for playing catch with a friend two days after his surgery.

"“He shouldn’t be doing it right now. We handled that internally. We had that discussion.” – Todd Bowles"

Sounds like things are going just fine up there.
