Steelers Digest Player of the Week
It’s pretty odd for a punter to be selected as the player of the week but in the case of Jordan Berry’s performance against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday, it’s pretty fitting. Bob Labriola of the Steelers Digest explains that Berry, in the midst of a battle for the punting job with Brad Wing, filled in on kickoffs after Garrett Hartley left the game with a right hamstring injury.
Not only did Berry fill in capably for Hartley but he also averaged 50 yards per punt, nailing punts from 55, 66, 34 and 78 yards. His first kickoff resulted in a touchback, although it was helped with a 15-yard penalty from the Bills, but his second kickoff was 1-yard deep in the end-zone.
Vick shines in Steelers debut
Think about this for a second. Mike Vick went out on the field yesterday in a Steelers uniform and the world did not explode. It did not affect the lives of those who have been so outraged since the signing in the least bit. The sun still came up this morning. Just thought that was worth noting.
Other than just stepping out on the field for the Steelers on Saturday against the Buffalo Bills, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reminds us that Vick was one of the few bright spots in the 43-19 loss. Vick completed 4 of 5 passes for 106 yards that included a 63-yard bomb to Martavis Bryant on his first possession.
Vick did have some confusion at times during the game and had to burn a couple of timeouts to get the right play called, which is understandable considering he practiced for just two days before Saturday’s game.
No word on Bryant suspension
Sometimes what isn’t said, speaks the most. After watching Martavis Bryant rack up 138 yards on three catches and a touchdown on Saturday you couldn’t help but get more upset about his impending four-game suspension for violation the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
The Trib’s Mark Kaboly assures us that nothing is settled at this point. When asked after the game about Bryant’s looming suspension, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin made it seem like it wasn’t a done deal yet.
"“there are still a lot of those elements still unresolved. I will address it when we get a totality of it.” – Mike Tomlin"
Martavis Bryant addressed the suspension himself and had the same tone.
"“Honestly guys, it hasn’t been officially ruled yet so at the appropriate time when they come to a final decision, I’ll comment on it. I am just focused on the team and working hard at practice to get better.” – Martavis Bryant"
Perhaps the appeal being in the works could delay the implementation of the suspension. Looks like this one is still in the process of being worked out and we can’t really rule Bryant out for week 1 just yet.
