Tebow Time over again

More than 600 NFL players lost their jobs this weekend while teams trimmed down to the league-mandated 53-man rosters. Sometimes those players will find jobs on practice squads but others are left on the outside looking in.

The most notable names cut from rosters include Tim Tebow. Eagles coach Chip Kelly was apparently trolling all of us when he traded Matt Barkley to the Arizona Cardinals on Friday. The third quarterback roster spot seemed to be a lock for Tebow. Turns out, Kelly was just teasing us and Tebow was cut on Saturday.

Running back Montee Ball was cut by the Denver Broncos on Sunday and wide receiver Reggie Wayne was granted his request to be released by the Patriots. Wayne is expected to retire, or report back to the Indianapolis Colts with intel on the Patriots, who can say?

Defensive tackle Devon Still was released by the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday, ending his career with the team. He’s out of practice squad roster eligibility so he’ll be looking to be picked up by another team looking for defensive line depth if he wants to stay in the NFL. Good news for him and his daughter, Leah, they’ll be covered by the NFL’s health insurance for the next five years.

Quarterbacks Matt Cassel, Matt Flynn, Thad Lewis, Christian Ponder, Matt Simms, Rex Grossman, T.J. Yates and Josh Freeman all got their pink slips this weekend. It’s rough out there for a bad quarterback.
