Bob Labriola tells us

that Jones’ efforts has earned him the title of Steelers Digest Player of the Week.

In his first 25 minutes of official NFL playing time Jones went 8 for 12 for 168 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and a quarterback rating of 149.3. Jones connected twice on touchdowns with Martavis Bryant, who caught six passes for 137 yards in his first game of the season.

Go ahead and fine him

Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward was fined $5,787 last week by the NFL for violating the NFL’s uniform policy by wearing eye black to honor his late father, Craig “Ironhead” Heyward. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler explains that Heyward faces a fine of $11,576 for wearing the eye black again on Sunday but Heyward, who is appealing the first fine, doesn’t care and will keep wearing it.

"“That’s the goal. There have been others, and I’m not going to name any names, that have worn it to support cancer. I don’t want to get involved in it, but it’s bigger than me. I’m not going to shy away from the fight against cancer, and I’m going to support them in any way possible.” – Cam Heyward"

Craig Heyward, who played fullback for the University of Pittsburgh and in the NFL, fought cancer before his death in 2006.

Beachum out

Unfortunately for the Steelers the win on Sunday did not come without any losses to injury. Left tackle Kelvin Beachum left the game with a knee injury and was replaced by Alejandro Villanueva. The new post-game on Beachum was not good.
