Steelers News: Roethlisberger, Miller, fines

The Steelers are looking to rebound from a loss in Kansas City and hope to get Ben Roethlisberger back from knee injury in time to the face division-rival Cincinnati Bengals. While they’re preparing for their three-game home stand we’ll be busy looking for mentions of your Black & Gold so we’ve got you covered. Here’s your Steelers Morning Huddle for Thursday, Oct. 29th.

Don’t get your hopes up

We’re all pretty much planning for Ben Roethlisberger to take the field on Sunday against the Bengals. Tomlin basically assured that was the plan in his Tuesday press conference. Roethlisberger himself, however, isn’t so confident or isn’t being so vocally confident according to Teresa Varley.

"“We’re going to go out there and give it a go today (Wednesday) and see where it goes from there. We have to take it one day at a time. That’s why I’m not getting my hopes up about Sunday. I’m going to get my hopes up for today and go out and see how it goes today.” – Ben Roethlisberger"

Maybe it’s better to make the Bengals sweat it out on whether he’ll play or not? Maybe we should just see how the week of practice goes.

Calm down, man

A hot topic for local sports talk radio last week was whether or not Antonio Brown was selfish/immature/the worst guy in ever for demonstrating frustration over not getting the ball in Roethlisberger’s absence.

Neil Coolong of Steelers Wire on USA Today explains that Brown told Gerry Dulac and Dale Lolley on WDVE that Heath Miller called him out in practice and told him to “stop complaining about not getting the ball.”

Looks like it worked out for everybody.

The NFL is dumb

Now that Cameron Heyward’s battle with the NFL over his customized eye-black is over the NFL has turned their sights towards even dumber fines. In an article pretty well articulated by Deadspin as to how awful the NFL is Steelers players DeAngelo Williams and William Gay both received fines this week.

Their infractions? Honoring their deceased mothers. Gay wore purple cleats (which he wore last season without fines) to raise awareness for domestic violence and Williams wore “We will find a cure” with the breast cancer ribbon on his eye-black during the league’s breast cancer awareness month. Gay was fined $5,787 and Williams $5,757. Awesome.
