Safety: Troy Polamalu (2003-2015)

The Steelers have had great defensive backs overall throughout their history, but no one has ever been like Troy Polamalu, and no one will ever be like Troy Polamalu.

Polamalu is arguably the most exciting player in NFL history, and definitely in Steeler history.

I remember sitting down and watching this lunatic with crazy long hair fling himself across the field, and do things that I thought were simply not one the capabilities of mankind.

In 2015, this future Hall of Fame safety retired, and a wave of sadness, excitement, and mostly celebration swarmed the world of social media, and the entire NFL.

Polamalu was one of those guys that doesn’t just affect a single team, but an entire sport. He was someone that people could look to, and just be inspired by how truly amazing he was, and the thrill of watching him was one of a kind.

Throughout his entire career, he made some of the most remarkable plays of all time. No one will forget some of his unforgettable interceptions, like the one handed leap against the Titans, or the finger tip dive against San Diego, and probably most famous, his return touchdown that sent the Steelers to the Super Bowl.

There are certain players that truly symbolize a franchise, and while every person on this list is surely a symbol of this team, Polamalu made an impact on not just the team, but the sport, and will never be forgotten.
