Steelers Week 13: Team Quotes and Comments

The Pittsburgh Steelers give their take on week 13

The Steelers beat the Colts. The Steelers beat the Colts by 35 points. The Colts were not a bad team either. Sure they were missing Luck but they didn’t pull a Cowboys. And they’re having an off year but they were still in the playoff picture. And the Steelers still beat them 45-10 at Heinz Field in a must win game on Sunday. It was all smiles after the game.

This will be my 13th team quotes and comments article for Still Curtain and after a game like this it really is fun. I’m the type of fan that if the Steelers win I’m awash in highlights and recaps and analysis and if the Steelers lose I just want to forget about it. So it’s always nice to type up a team quotes and comments after a win. So you can imagine how nice it is to dwell on a game like last week for another day.

With the offense scoring 45 (7 on special teams technically) and the defense holding the Colts to 10 points, there was a lot of upbeat, praise eachother quotes as you can imagine. So let’s pat ourselves on the back another day.

Antonio Brown

Brown had 118 yards on 8 receptions and 2 touchdowns. He’s kind of a big deal. On top of that he had a 71 yard punt return for a touchdown. That’s about half the points this guy’s responsible for. But after the game, not unlike the flip week, all the talk was about Brown’s touchdown celebration, his … uh … goal post hump/collision?

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Antonio Brown had this to say for himself, “I was full of excitement. I tried to stick it at the goalpost, and it just didn’t work out … Until next time, all you get is a smile.”

Ben Roethlisberger said of his teammate’s shenanigans, “AB is silly. I just don’t want him to get hurt. He said he was trying to stick it. He didn’t do a very good job. So I just didn’t want him to get hurt. He’s fine, so we’re happy.”

More from Steelers News

Tomlin, bracing himself for at the media reaction said, “I didn’t see it. But I’m sure we’ll rehash it and rehash it a thousand times in the next six days and suck all the life out of it.”

Steelers Offense

I mean, as soon as you start naming who is playing well on the Steelers offense you find out you’re just listing all the starters. Shoot, even the “backups” like DeAngelo Williams, Cody Wallace, Alejandro Villanueva, and Jesse James are playing well. The offense put up 522 yards and 38 points with a balanced and dominant attack. So you know it was more than one Steeler having a good day.

Per AP sports writer Will Graves, Ben Roethlisberger said of his surging offense, “We left points out there and we left yards out there. Whether I missed throws, whether guys missed catches, whatever it was. … We want to be perfect. We want to catch every ball. I want to make every throw. When we don’t do it, it’s frustrating. I just feel a chemistry growing between us on offense. Things just seem to be working.”

You ever notice Ben always claims they left points out there when the Steelers crush a team offensively? Humblebrag.

Antonio Brown wasn’t afraid to be a little braggadocious though, saying, “We have the best quarterback in the NFL. We have a great offensive line and running back … We’re doing a great job and getting better each and every week as a team. Today we showed that.”

DeAngelo Williams simply said, “It’s all about rhythm and timing.”

Steelers Defense

Oh ya, your turn defense. You earned it. The Steelers held the Colts offense to 10 points and 240 yards, 186 yards passing and 57 yards rushing. They also got themselves 2 interceptions, 5 sacks, and a forced and recovered fumble. The defense really kept the Colts in check for the entire game really. Sounds let’s hear from this newly solid defense the Steelers have emerging.

Tomlin said of his players, according to Mike Prisuta of Steelers.com, “I thought it was positive. Hard rushing and coverage work together, and minimizing big plays, and that’s a formula for playing well back there.”

Ross Cockrell, proving himself to be a nice edition to the secondary, said this, “We got a win and at the end of the day that’s all that matters. You just have to continue to work on your communication. You just have to go out there and make plays. It felt good, it felt comfortable. The schemes are still the same. Our front just played out of their minds. When you get pressure on the quarterback like they were, my sister could probably go out there.”

F. Dale Lolley from observer-reporter.com quoted Mike Mitchell saying, “Obviously, we were ticked off about our performance last week, so we had to take it out on somebody.”
