Steelers: All eyes on Buffalo

The Buffalo Bills go up against the New York Jets this week in a game that could very well decide the fate of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ season.

If the Bills beat the Jets, and Pittsburgh handles Cleveland, then Pittsburgh would suddenly find themselves in the playoffs, and hopefully enough firepower for a run.

This week’s loss to Baltimore was one of the most devastating losses in recent memory. Pittsburgh had all the momentum to do some serious damage, and every team was just hoping that they would slip up; and they did.

The Steelers controlled their own destiny with two games to go against subpar divisional teams, and like they have many times under Tomlin, the Steelers fell to a team they should’ve easily handled.

Pittsburgh has actually lost more times to teams with a losing record, under Tomlin, than teams with a winning record. That’s a stat that really shouldn’t be the case for any team, and it’s just kind of sad.

But despite Week 16 turning into a nightmare for Pittsburgh, there’s still a small glimmer of hope, and that hope is called The Buffalo Bills.

After witnessing a hideous performance against the Ravens, no one can assume Pittsburgh will beat Cleveland, but let’s just say they do handle Cleveland. Then, everything rests on the Bills and Jets matchup.

Earlier in the season, Head Coach Rex Ryan and his boys in blue triumphed over New York in a very exciting game. Not only did they beat the Jets, but they beat them at home.

Since then, the Bills have been riddled with injuries, and overall subpar play, leading them to a 7-8 record up to this point.

With that being said, Rex Ryan, being the Head Coach of the Jets last year, wants nothing more than to spoil their chances of reaching the playoffs, especially just a year out of him being at the helm.

A huge part of this game could be the home field advantage the Bills have. While it’s certain that many Jets fans will be flocking the Ralph Wilson Stadium in light of the high stakes, the stadium always tends to be a noisy and crowded event.

While the playoffs aren’t in sight for Buffalo, they have a lot of fight for. First off, they would love to finish the season with an even record, something that looks a lot prettier on paper than a losing record. On top of that, any team would love to play spoilers to a fellow divisional opponent, just ask the Ravens.

In the end, the odds are stacked against Pittsburgh’s playoff hopes, but the Buffalo Bills are a beacon of hope, and there’s very few teams that fans should rather have standing in the Jets way than Rex Ryan’s boys.

Sunday is a huge day for Steeler Nation, and while everyone should keep tabs on the game against Cleveland, the game in Buffalo has just as much importance.
