Mike Vick was signed by the Steelers on August 25th after Gradkowski was placed on injured reserve with a right shoulder injury. His signing caused a social media backlash by some misguided fans who idiotically protested the signing based on Vick’s past.

Vick played in five games for the Steelers in 2015, starting three and included a come-from-behind win in San Diego on Monday Night Football in October. It was clear, however, by Vick’s skills and traits that he just didn’t fit into the Steelers’ offensive system.

Vick spoke highly of his time in Pittsburgh and expressed interest in returning when speaking to Teresa Varley during locker clean-out day.

"“I love the Steelers organization. I love Coach Tomlin. I love the players I am around. I love my teammates. It was an awesome experience this year to compete throughout the playoffs. That’s what I came here for.” – Mike Vick"

With Vick turning 36 before training camps open it is highly unlikely that the Steelers re-sign him. Although he’s definitely go the experience, he didn’t fit well into the offense and he certainly doesn’t have the speed he used to.

The Steelers will likely be looking towards the draft or elsewhere in free agency to fill their backup quarterback needs. Don’t get crazy though; settle down any talk of “looking for Ben’s eventual replacement.” We aren’t even close to being there yet.

What do you think the Steelers should do in free agency at the quarterback position?
