Steelers Free Agency: Offensive Line
By Kim Myers
Byron Stingily
The Steelers signed Byron Stingily on October 19, 2015 after he was released by the Tennessee Titans in early September. Stingily was drafted by the Titans in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft out of Louisville.
In his four-year career with the Titans he played in 20 games and had 9 starts at right tackle. He was cut during the final roster cuts of 2015 by Tennessee. When Steelers left tackle Kelvin Beachum suffered a season-ending torn ACL in October, the Steelers signed Stingily for depth.
Stingily’s efforts with the Steelers aren’t actually able to be judged as he was never active for any games, including the playoffs. It’s likely that his signing for depth on the line was encouraged by coach Munchak, as he was the head coach of the Titans from 2011-2013.
The Steelers could easily move on from Stingily here, and find depth for the line through the draft. Stingily will be 28 when the season kicks off and after not seeing anything from him enough to activate him for any games, it is unlikely that they’ll offer him a contract.
