Jordan Todman has bounced around the NFL since being drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft out of UConn. He spent the 2011 season on the Chargers’ practice squad before being signed by the Vikings and placed on their practice squad.

Todman finally saw some regular-season action with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012-2014. He was signed by the Carolina Panthers last offseason as a free agent but was released prior to the start of the season. The Steelers picked him up on September 6th on a one-year deal.

Due to the season-ending injury to Le’Veon Bell and injury that kept DeAngelo Williams out of the playoffs, Todman got some post-season action with the Steelers and along with Fitzgerald Toussaint and Martavis Bryant, gathered 172 rushing yards in the Steelers’ 18-16 Wild Card victory over the Bengals.

While backing up and then stepping in for DeAngelo Williams Todman played in conjunction with Toussaint and they were dubbed with the nickname “TNT”. As separate players Todman was outplayed by Toussaint enough for the Steelers to name him the starting running back in the Wild Card game instead of Todman.

The Steelers started the 2015 regular season with Bell, Williams and Dri Archer as running backs with Will Johnson and Roosevelt Nix as fullbacks. It would be difficult to see them hold onto both Todman and Toussaint if they keep the two fullbacks in Johnson and Nix.

The easy decision here would be to keep Toussaint since he is already under contract. It’s a tough pill to swallow, since his costly fumble resulted in the Broncos’ 23-16 win to knock the Steelers out of the playoffs but the goal will be to not have to rely on a backup running back in the playoffs for a change.
