Clifton Geathers’ experience with the Steelers has been nonexistent but he is well-traveled in the NFL.  He was signed as a free agent in December of 2014 after the career-ending torn triceps injury to Brett Keisel but was inactive for the remainder of the games on the schedule.

Geathers signed another one-year contract with the Steelers in April of 2015 but was placed on season-ending injured reserve in August. He has yet to play a single snap for the Steelers.

Geathers has made his way around the NFL since being drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of South Carolina. He was released in their final roster cuts and was picked up by the Miami Dolphins on waiver claims.

The Dolphins waived Geathers and he was scooped up by the Seattle Seahawks. Still with me? He was signed by the Dallas Cowboys in December of 2010 off of waivers and was there until being released in the summer of 2012.

The Indianapolis Colts picked him up for their practice squad where he actually played in a regular season game at some point. He was then traded to the Philadelphia Eagles and then signed as a free agent with the Washington Redskins.

Whew, that was a lot of traveling. Who knows if they’ll take another flyer on Geathers? They must have seen something in him to re-sign him last year after not activating him for any games. At 28 it’s not much of a risk but then again why wouldn’t you want to just fortify the defensive line with younger talent via draft or undrafted free agents?
