Steelers season never truly ends for Steeler Nation so while the offseason starts to heat up we’ll be busy looking for mentions of your Black & Gold so we’ve got you covered. Here’s your Steelers Morning Huddle for Wednesday, Mar. 2nd.

Just kick it, yo

It had to be intimidating for Chris Boswell to come into the Steelers as their fourth kicker in a month to have the necessary skills and confidence to be the last kicker the team would need last season.

Teresa Varley has Boswell’s comments about his arrival in Pittsburgh and his focus on just one kick at a time.

More from Steelers News

He describes how after his tryout at Heinz Field to get signed his next challenge was kicking in practice in front of all of his new teammates. Steelers linebacker James Harrison positioned himself near Boswell during his kick attempts, presumably to add pressure that would mimic game-situations.

I’m not sure how any other kicker would do for their first practice with the team to have Deebo breathing down your neck but Boswell took that pressure and turned it into going 29 of 32 for field goal attempts and kicked the game-winning field goal against the Bengals in the Wild Card game.

Happy Birthday Ben!

Ben Roethlisberger turns 34 today! Roethlisberger was drafted by the Steelers with the 11th overall pick in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft out of Miami University of Ohio. He made his first start for the Steelers against the Miami Dolphins in September of 2004 and would lead the team to a 15-1 record with an AFC Championship game appearance.

He’s won two Super Bowls and appeared in three total, he owns the Steelers franchise passing records for attempts, completion percentage, touchdowns and passing yards. His charity work includes his foundation that provides police dogs to cities all over the country as well as extensive work and donations to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The Steelers couldn’t ask for a better quarterback so Steeler Nation be sure to wish Ben a Happy Birthday today.

Prestigious Honor

Steelers Chairman Dan Rooney will receive the Jackie Robinson Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award at their ROBIE Awards Dinner in New York on Monday, March 7th. Rooney is being honored with the award for his efforts in the NFL as well as his contributions to the country as United States Ambassador to Ireland.

Rooney was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000 and as Teresa Varley reminds us that he once joked that if you get a lifetime achievement award it just means that you’ve been around for a long time. He certainly has been around a long time but his contributions to the NFL warrant several lifetime achievement awards.
