If the Steelers are going to lose Ramon Foster to free agency they’ll need a guard that can step in right away. San Francisco 49ers guard Alex Boone could be that guard that can step in and provide the nastiness on the offensive line that Foster would have provided.

The Steelers might have to face a decision on whether they can keep guard Ramon Foster or tackle Kelvin Beachum. If Beachum leaves they already have Alejandro Villanueva, who stepped in for Beachum last season when he tore his ACL.

There is no such backup plan in the event Ramon Foster departs in free agency. Foster could be looking for what would be his last big payday and there’s no telling which way the Steelers will go on this. The addition of Mike Munchak as Steelers offensive line coach provides the confidence that anyone can be added to the line and excel but time is of the essence and there’s no time to develop and bring along someone that can’t contribute right away.

The Steelers running game and protection of Ben Roethlisberger depends on the offensive line and if they happen to lose both Beachum and Foster they’ll need more than adequate replacements.
