While the draft picks and analysis are coming in we’ll keep you updated on everything Black & Gold. Here’s your Steelers Morning Huddle for Saturday, April 30th.

Playing for the city

The Steelers welcomed first-round draft pick cornerback Artie Burns to the city for the first time on Friday since being drafted. Burns talked about his excitement to be drafted by the Steelers and his desire to want to achieve great things for the organization and the city of Pittsburgh.

Teresa Varley has his comments on how he feels proud to be representing the city of Pittsburgh with playing for the Steelers.

"“I am playing for the team, for the city. I want to please everybody in the building, and please everybody in the city. We want the fans out there standing on their feet.” – Artie Burns"

Versatility

The Steelers’ second-round pick in the 2016 was also to fill a need in the secondary. Mike Prisuta thinks that Steeler Nation should be excited about Sean Davis. Why? For one he played cornerback last season at Maryland but started at safety the previous two seasons. He’s a heavy-hitter who will start at free safety for the Steelers.

Davis led the nation in forced fumbles among defensive backs signifying that we won’t have to be worrying about his tackling skills in the secondary. The Steelers gave themselves some options and some versatility with the pick of Davis to add to the secondary. Steeler Nation should be excited.

Defensive tackle from a small school, sound familiar?

The Steelers have never shied away from drafting players from smaller schools. While Friday night seemed to be a supplemental draft for just Alabama and Ohio State players the Steelers selected players from smaller schools who played bigger than their school.

Steelers assistant coach/defensive line coach John Mitchell told Teresa Varley how Javon Hargrave, who played for South Carolina State before being drafted by the Steelers, played bigger than the billing his school may have gotten.

"“He played up to his ability. He didn’t play down to the talent he faced. That is the problem you have with a lot of guys that come from small schools. They didn’t dominate the league that they are in and you worry about are they very competitive. He was competitive week in and week out. What I saw on tape, I like the way he played week in and week out.” – John Mitchell"

Hargrave may have come from a small school but he’s going to be a big addition to the Steelers.
