Guards:

Starters: Ramon Foster, David DeCastro

Backups: Chris Hubbard, Cole Manhart

The Steelers were likely faced with a decision this past free agency with regards to their offensive line. They could either overpay for Kelvin Beachum at left tackle, who had turned down a long-term offer the prior offseason and was coming off of a knee injury but provided position flexibility.

Or the Steeler could re-sign guard Ramon Foster, who was a little older but has been a key piece of the offensive line’s success since he became a starter. There was probably little chance that they were going to offer both players contracts.

I feel like they did the right thing by signing Foster to a 3-year, $9.6 million contract and letting Beachum leave. Now they have to do the right thing and sign DeCastro to a contract extension before he becomes a free agent at the end of the 2016 season.

DeCastro and Foster are two of the best interior offensive linemen in the NFL and having them in Pittsburgh for the long run is good for everyone.
