The Steelers are hosting the Giants in the hopes of ending their six-game winning streak while starting their own three-game winning streak.

Tailgating in Pittsburgh in December is risky business. I’ve lived in Florida and between the two areas Western PA has by far the more unpredictable weather.

Still, you’re going to be hungry for this game. The Steelers have been rolling over some bad teams so it’s time for them to stand up to tough competition. It’s the battle of the 2004 NFL Draft Class with Ben Roethlisberger vs. Eli Manning.

New York is known to many great foods but none greater than the pizza. Pittsburgh is nothing to sniff at pizza-wise itself. I don’t know how any chain pizza places even survive in this area when you can get great pizza at just about any local joint within a five-mile radius.

For game day, however, you’re not dragging a pizza oven to the Gold Lot on Sunday morning. It’s just not practical. What you can do is combine pizza with a more traditional tailgating fare like hamburgers.

Why not have a pizza burger?

Here are the steps to turn a regular burger into a pizza hybrid that will make the tailgaters next to you offer their stash of booze for a taste.

There are several keys to ensuring a tasty burger. The biggest one is toasting your buns. Your buns need to be toasted, they want to be toasted. Don’t let them hold the weight of a burger without having some toastiness to reinforce the structure.

You can add your favorite pizza toppings as well. I went with only pepperoni and cheese but you can add peppers, mushrooms and even some spinach or arugula to add some freshness. You won’t regret it.

Don’t for get as well that Mike Tomlin called on Steelers fans to get loud and proud during Sunday’s game!
