Need Number Three: Safety

The safety position, much like corner, got a nice first step in building it back by selecting Sean Davis in 2016. Davis played very well for Pittsburgh and earned a starting nod by mid-season.

Mike Mitchell is the current safety opposite Davis. Mitchell, who will be 30 at the start of camp, is getting older and the Steelers need to find a replacement.

The depth on the roster is not promising as Shamarko Thomas has disappointed and Robert Golden is much more suited for high volume special team snaps than he is a defensive starter.

The only other option at safety that has any experience is Jordan Dangerfield. Since the team is in no position to put its trust into him, here are some safety targets:

  • Obi Melifonwu, Marcus Williams, Budda Baker
  • Josh Jones, Justin Evans, Eddie Jackson
  • Lorenzoe Jerome, Xavier Woods, Tedric Thompson
