What does Cam Sutton’s future in Pittsburgh hold?
The future looks bright for Sutton in Pittsburgh. In the last few seasons, Pittsburgh’s defensive back room has seen its darkest days in recent memory.
The Steelers did well to turn that around in 2016 when they spent their first two picks on Artie Burns and Sean Davis. They continued the build with picking Sutton and fellow corner Brian Allen in this year’s draft.
Sutton will have the opportunity to immediately make his presence felt. What he does with that opportunity will decide his worth and length of stay in the Steel City.
Pittsburgh now has a very young secondary, save Mike Mitchell and William Gay. The corners, aside from Gay, are all 25 or younger. This bodes well moving forward in Pittsburgh.
The secondary overall is getting younger, faster and more athletic. If this trend continues, and the Steelers hit on Sutton the same way they did Burns and Davis, this Steelers secondary could be set for years to come.
Watching this battle unfold will be one of the most interesting aspects of the 2017 training camp. Only time will tell what these young defensive backs have to offer. Here’s to hoping it is something special.
