Pittsburgh Steelers finalize 53-man roster
The Pittsburgh Steelers have finalized their 2017 53-man roster.
The Steelers have made plenty of moves today, polishing off the best 53-man roster they can before 4pm EST. Well, they’ve done everything they could, and now have the team they look to compete for the Super Bowl LII with.
Pittsburgh made the following cuts before 4pm EST:
- Wide receiver Demarcus Ayers
- Center Ruben Carter
- Offensive lineman Ethan Cooper
- Running back Knile Davis
- Cornerback Brandon Dixon
- Center Kyle Friend
- Linebacker Matt Galambos
- Linebacker Austin Gearing
- Safety Malik Golden(waived/injured),
- Cornerback Senquez Golson
- Safety Jacob Hagen
- Wide receiver Cobi Hamilton
- Long snapper Colin Holba
- Defensive end Lavon Hooks
- Quarterback Bart Houston
- Linebacker Farrington Huguenin
- Tight end David Johnson
- Linebacker Steven Johnson
- Defensive end Francis Kallon
- Linebacker Keith Kelsey
- Defensive end Johnny Maxey
- Tight end Jake McGee
- Offensive tackle Brian Mihalik
- Offensive lineman Keavon Milton
- Cornerback Dashaun Phillips
- Defensive tackle Roy Philon
- Offensive tackle Jake Rodgers
- Cornerback JaCorey Shepherd
- Wide receiver Justin Thomas
- Running back Fitzgerald Touissant,
- Wide receiver Marcus Tucker
- Safety Terrish Webb
- Running back Trey Williams
There were some surprises. For one, no one saw Colin Holba being released, and most people believed Knile Davis wasn’t set to make the team either as a running back or for special teams use. Either way, Pittsburgh has decided it’s best to move on from both, and now have their team for the 2017 season.
Senquez Golson has been someone Pittsburgh was hoping panned out, but after two missed seasons and no preseason action again this summer, the Steelers decided they weren’t willing to wait around anymore.
Long-time tight end, David Johnson was on the edge of making the 53-man, but with the trade for Vance McDonald, Pittsburgh just had one too many tight ends to fit him in.

There were plenty of surprises and maybe not everyone wants to see these players leave. But, the deed is done, and Pittsburgh is ready to start their Super Bowl journey.
The only question now, is how will the depth chart look?
