Pittsburgh Steelers fall to Chicago Bears in overtime

CHICAGO, IL - SEPTEMBER 24: Jordan Howard

In a sloppy game on both sides, the Pittsburgh Steelers lose their first game of the 2017 season 23-17 to the Chicago Bears.

This was bad. From a slow start on both sides of the ball to what looked like a 50% effort in overtime, the Pittsburgh Steelers took their first loss of the season to the Chicago Bears.

Down 17-7 at the half, the Steelers took control in the second half, bringing the game back to a tie at 17-17. In what looked like a solid comeback effort by the Steelers, they failed to execute late in the fourth on a last minute drive and then seemingly got out-hustled in the only drive of overtime.

It seems that the Steelers have fallen into a slump where they play down to their opponents. Throughout three weeks this season, Pittsburgh has looked slow and somewhat out of sync on both sides of the ball. With the Baltimore Ravens next on their schedule, this team needs to make the necessary adjustments if they hope to keep their record over .500.

For the Bears, it was the rushing attack that held Pittsburgh in check. Their 220 total rushing yards and two touchdowns were led by Jordan Howard’s 138 yards and two scores.

On offense, the Steelers continued to struggle on the ground. Le’Veon Bell’s 15 rushes for 61 yards and a score was better than his last two performances, but still not up to par with his talent.

It was a struggle throughout and in crunch time, the Bears out-performed at home. With a tougher schedule ahead for Pittsburgh, it’s now or never to figure out the struggles they’ve faced this season.
