Pittsburgh Steelers: 3 matchups to watch vs Chiefs
By Edward Hunt
The Pittsburgh Steelers have a talented Kansas City team on their hands in the Week 6, which could lead to some interesting matchups.
After a disappointing loss in Week 5, the Steelers are looking to bounce back with a win over the undefeated Chiefs. If they can take advantage of these pivotal matchups, they should be able to hand Kansas City their first loss of 2017.
Ryan Shazier versus Kareem Hunt
Kareem Hunt has been a star running back this year and has outperformed his third-round status. He not only has the ability to win the Rookie of the Year honors, he also should get serious Pro Bowl consideration. His production should scare the Steelers and the answer must be in Pro Bowler Ryan Shazier. Shazier has been the leader in the Steelers inside linebacking core and is relied on in the run stopping game. Shazier’s quick speed is the Steelers hope for stopping Kareem Hunt. Hunt will also need to be contained in the passing game as well and I am sure that with Shazier’s speed he will be asked to mark Hunt at some point in the game.
Marcus Gilbert versus Justin Houston
According to NFL.com, Justin Houston already has five and a half sacks and we are only heading into week six. That means that Houston is averaging a sack per game. Teams put such a premium on getting after the quarterback and Justin Houston does just that. Marcus Gilbert is the teams best tackle and will be matched up against Justin Houston rushing from the edge. It will be interesting to see if Marcus Gilbert is fully healed from his hamstring injury as he will need to be at his best this week. Something to be aware of is that Houston has been dealing with a calf injury and may not play Sunday. The pessimist in me says Houston plays though.
Artie Burns versus Tyreek Hill
Artie Burns has been the Steelers best corner this year and that has been a blessing for the Steelers pass defense. He will be matched up against Tyreek Hill who is also a second-year player.
Next: Stopping Kareem Hunt key to Steelers success
According to Pro Football Reference, Hill has received 356 yards and has also caught two touchdowns. He will be one to watch if he dresses as he was added to the injury report Thursday with a hamstring injury.
