Jordan Dangerfield is back with the Pittsburgh Steelers

According to the team, the Pittsburgh Steelers have reassigned Jordan Dangerfield.
The Steelers have officially brought Jordan Dangerfield back after he has recovered from a sprained ankle in the preseason. He was signed to the practice squad as the Steelers fifth safety and in a corresponding move, Jacob Hagen has been released from the practice squad.
Jordan Dangerfield bounced on and off the Steelers preseason roster and practice squad his first few years as a professional football player. Early in his career, he garnered a reputation for being an intense player and someone who could help the team on special teams.
Last year, he had a good preseason with a particularly good fourth preseason game which lead to him making the roster. The Steelers carried him on the roster and used him as a reserve safety and a special teamer. His specialty on special teams was as a wing on the punt team. He had a good year overall and earned the trust of the coaching staff that if they needed a safety, Dangerfield could be their man.
This preseason he sprained his ankle and was then waived injured. He then reverted back to the team’s injured/reserve list before agreeing to an injury settlement. He has been a free agent ever since. There was a moment this season when he visited the Detriot Lions, but he did not receive a contract from them. This made it possible for the Steelers to sign him to their practice squad.
Now that Dangerfield is healthy he can be carried on the practice squad. The benefit is that if the team needs a fifth safety, Dangerfield already has experience playing in the defense and on special teams.

The Steelers were thin at the safety position heading into the beginning of the season. Mike Mitchell was hurt, Robert Golden was struggling and Jordan Dangerfield had a sprained ankle. The Steelers were forced to go out and get JJ Wilcox from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Now the Steelers are healthier at the position and have the ability to sign Jordan Dangerfield to the roster as needed.
