Pittsburgh Steelers’ defensive end, Stephon Tuitt, spent his bye week rewarding the women who raised him.
Fullfilling a lifelong dream, the star defensive lineman spent his bye week shopping for a house, not for himself, but for his mother. Tamara Bartlett, Tuitt’s mother, got one of the greatest gifts a son could give, being handed a townhouse in Georgia.
Tuitt grew up in a nice neighborhood in Georgia after moving from Florida when he was young. His mother, who worked for Gwinnett County sheriff’s department while he was growing up, made sure her children were able to grow in a decent house, which made Tuitt want to reward her for her hard work.
"“I got a chance to give her the home she wanted,” Tuitt told Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “That was a goal of mine since I was little kid. She worked really hard her whole entire life just to keep us in good neighborhoods and have us go to good schools, even though we couldn’t afford it."
"“All that struggle she’s been through, the pain and suffering she went through, the hard work she put in, I only felt it was right to go back home and give her the house of her dreams and let her live debt-free.”"
For any son, giving your mother her own home is something you dream. Whether you grew up in a high-end home or a small house, being able to provide for the woman who supported you is a goal most men set out to achieve.
Tuitt, who signed a 5-yr/$61.05 million contract this offseason, made it known he was excited to use his success to provide for his mother. Now, he’s able to give her the gift he’s always dreamed of.
"“It feels tremendous as a son,” Tuitt told Dulac. “People don’t all grow up the same. I’m blessed to be able to do something I get paid a lot of money to do, but you got to be smart. I just had good people in my corner to do the right things with my money and put me in the right position to do this for my mother.”"

Barlett is set to move into her new home this week. Although Tuitt probably could’ve afforded something bigger than a townhouse, his mother wanted a townhouse so she wouldn’t have to focus on outside work.
