The Pittsburgh Steelers have five weeks left in the season. The path to the playoffs is a fairly easy one on paper but they still have a few hurdles to face.

In exactly 30 days from this posting the Pittsburgh Steelers will be preparing to play their season finale against Cleveland at Heinz Field. The Steelers have five contests left and sit at 9-2 on the year.

With the schedule as follows, the Steelers have a fairly easy road. They will play in Cincinnati on Monday night, home against Baltimore and New England in back to back weeks, travel to Houston and then finish at home against Cleveland.

Out of all the remaining opponents, one obviously jumps out at Steeler Nation and that is New England. The Patriots game will be at home, which is a big advantage for Pittsburgh.

New England is the Steelers biggest remaining threat to lose in the next five games. As most Steeler fans know, the Patriots are the Steelers’ kryptonite as of late.

The team and fans seem to always be looking ahead to New England. The Steelers could do wonders for themselves should they beat the Patriots.

The game will likely decide the number one seed in the AFC playoff race. Pittsburgh would rather have New England at home than have to travel to Foxborough to play.

The Patriots aren’t the only threat to Pittsburgh the rest of the year. The team still has three division games left on the season.

Baltimore and Cincinnati are back to back on the schedule and that is always a tough two game stretch. The two may not be lighting up the NFL in 2017, but divisional matchups are always dangerous regardless of record.

Either team has the chance to put a kink in the Steelers playoff plans before the New England game and both have the tools to do it. The Steelers need to bring their best in this three-week gauntlet to position themselves in the best spot come January.

Although the Texans are missing their quarterback, the Steelers showed a backup can have a good game after the poor showing on SNF against Green Bay’s Brett Hundley. The Texans have a good enough defense to help keep them close and possible upset the Steelers.

The Browns are a mess as usual but even they can be a threat. If it should come down to the Steelers needing to beat Cleveland for the number one seed, Cleveland will absolutely look to shock the world.

Every week is a threat in the NFL to lose if you do not bring your best game. The Steelers are no different as they will need to fire on all cylinders the next five games.

Pittsburgh’s current three-week gauntlet is its biggest hurdle to the number one seed. While there are many teams that could upset them, New England is the biggest of them all.
