Two Pittsburgh Steelers were awarded Pro Football Writers of America awards this week.

Steelers wide receiver, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and guard, David DeCastro, were the winner of two individual awards by the Pro Football Writers of America this week. With the NFL season winding down, the PFWA handed out numerous awards on the season.

DeCastro was awarded “The Chief” award. Named after Art Rooney Sr., this award is given to the player who is most cooperative with the media.

Following the award, the Steelers team site released a statement.

"DeCastro is a player who is always available in the locker room, through the good and the bad, and gives well-thought out and insightful answers whenever he is approached by the media."

Smith-Schuster was named the winner of “Joe Greene Great Performance Award” given to the best rookie. Named after “Mean” Joe Greene, this award is provided to the best rookie on the roster. While T.J. Watt was also a strong contender for the award, the PFWA committee decided to go with the offensive weapon instead.

"Smith-Schuster has played in 13 games this season, starting six of them. He has 49 receptions for 774 yards and six touchdowns, which have come with the some of the NFL’s most imaginative touchdown celebrations. He has proven to be a big-play threat for the offense, with a 97-yard touchdown reception against the Lions under his belt."

These two have been major impacters for the Steelers this season. With one game before the playoffs, chances are these two won’t see the field much before the playoffs. As the Steelers try to start their run to the Super Bowl, they’ll be looking to end the regular season strong with a win over the 0-15 Cleveland Browns.
