Pittsburgh Steelers: James Harrison’s contract details released
In one of the most controversial moves in recent NFL history, former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker, James Harrison’s, new contract with the New England Patriots has been revealed.
While no one expected James Harrison to be playing for much on the Patriots, no one expected his contract to be what is it. Despite being 39-years-old, Harrison is still a force in this league, and is hoping to have an impactful role on New England.
After being released by the Steelers last week, Harrison spent no time looking for a team before signing with the Pats. Afterwards, an all out war broke out between him and his former Steelers teammates, as many were upset with how the team changed went down.
Now, Harrison’s contract has been released, and it’s very shocking. Harrison is still guaranteed $2.13 million from his contract with the Steelers. On top of that, he has signed for the prorated veteran minimum with the Patriots, earning him $58,824 and playoff bonuses with his new team.
Obviously, Harrison didn’t make the move for money. He’s just looking to finish his career with some playing time, and Pittsburgh was providing that. With T.J. Watt claiming the starting role, Harrison’s use on the team was next to nonexistent. So, he forced his way out and choose the other AFC favorite to be his next NFL home.
This is a move that will follow Harrison for the rest of his career, and beyond. Over the years, the Patriots and Steelers have become big time rivals in the AFC, and to move to another team is choosing the biggest of enemies.
Next: Harrison's signing a slap in the face
For Harrison, it’s clear he’s only concerned with playing time and winning. Something most would respect. But when it comes to Pittsburgh and New England, most believe he crosses sacred land and is now just as big of an enemy as the rest of the players in blue and red.
