Pittsburgh Steelers Film Room: Linebacker Josey Jewell
How does Josey Jewell fit the Pittsburgh Steelers?
In the days leading up to the 2016 draft, I watched two players on tape. Those two players screamed Pittsburgh Steeler to me and they ended up being drafted by the team in consecutive rounds in that draft.
Those two players were Sean Davis and Javon Hargrave. When watching their tape, something about them immediately grabbed at me and said “these guys belong in black and gold”.
When I sat down and watched Josey Jewell and focused on his play, I had that same thought. He has been my favorite draft study thus far.
Jewell came from a tough conference in the Big Ten which bodes well for a career in the AFC North. His tackling ability and instincts would do wonders at linebacker for the Steelers defense in need of a spark at the position.
Josey Jewell was a captain in college which shows his ability to be respected as a leader by his peers. Inside linebackers are often looked to as the leaders of the defense so this bodes well for him.
He also was the 2017 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. Along with that award he won the 2017 Ronnie Lott trophy given to the most impact player on defense in the entire NCAA.

Jewell has a Steeler aura about him and his tape will make hardcore Steeler fans feel as such. Also, we already know he looks great in Steelers’ colors as Iowa has nearly identical uniforms to Pittsburgh!
