The Positive Traits

Fred Warner has a good speed element to his game. He is 6’4″ 230 and can play like a safety.

His ability to close on the ball carrier really stands out to you when watching his tape. He has a good approach to tackling and will bring down the ball carrier at the point of attack.

He is not a hard hitter most of the time but his frame does allow him to lay the lumber on occasion. Being 230 pounds works against him in that department but he has it in him to hit someone hard sometimes.

His coverage ability is above average. He displays the awareness to be able to stick to his zone as well as be aware of the QB’s eyes and the receivers around him.

He amassed seven career interceptions at BYU. This shows to me that he can cover and track the ball well in his zones or in man to man on running backs or tight ends.

Warner’s 6’4″ height allows him to see the field better than shorter linebackers. This helps him in pass coverage as well as tracking the ball carrier behind the line in the running game.
