Daimion Stafford

Daimion Stafford had potential. Pittsburgh was looking for that safety to step in and contribute when called upon and Stafford easily could’ve been it. His productivity in Tennessee in 2016 was enough to earn himself some notice during the offseason. If he played in 2017, he would’ve received a decent amount of reps at both safety positions.

But he retired. Well, he more just stopped showing up. Stafford simply didn’t show up to training camp as rumors circulated about him considering retirement. Eventually, Stafford did choose to retire and Pittsburgh made a trade for J.J. Wilcox.

This deal was smart, but sometimes things happen that are out of your control. This one isn’t on Pittsburgh, it was just bad luck.
