Vance McDonald

Vance McDonald’s career in Pittsburgh would’ve had a better chance if he came a year ago. If he was Ladarius Green last season, and only missed a handful of games like he did this season, he’d likely be looking at another contract. But the Steelers are probably done with injured tight ends and are looking for a compliment to Jesse James that can stay on the field.

The Steelers need a pass catching tight end, but one that stays on the field. McDonald couldn’t stay healthy and because of it, Pittsburgh is going to try and release his contract to clear space for Le’Veon Bell’s long-term deal.

Pittsburgh lost money on this one. They took on a 6yr/$35.8 million deal but could avoid a lot of it by cutting McDonald this offseason. Trey Burton is available in free agency and could be the next man up in black and gold.
