BATON ROUGE, LA – OCTOBER 17: Jake McGee /

Jake McGee

I’m going to start with the player least likely to remain on the roster beyond training camp. Jake McGee played college football at Virginia before transferring to Florida after graduating. That’s where things went wrong. McGee broke his leg in his first appearance as a Gator, an injury that ended his season.

Fortunately for him, and for the Gators, McGee was granted a medical hardship and sixth season on NCAA eligibility. The senior responded with 41 receptions and four touchdowns.

McGee ended last season on the practice squad after failing to survive preseason cuts. Going into Florida he was heralded as a clutch player with 38 of his 71 receptions at Virginia going for first downs, and six of his seven touchdowns coming on third down. He has good athleticism and has potential, or Pittsburgh would not have signed him to a futures contract. Expect him to compete through training camp for a roster spot, and perhaps another practice squad berth.
