Round 2, Pick 28 (60 overall) – LB Josey Jewell, Iowa

Pittsburgh has an immediate need at linebacker even with the signing of Bostic. Though Bostic provides an immediate starter, the depth at the position is lacking.

Vince Williams and Bostic are the likely starters and after them is not much. Tyler Matakevich and L.J. Fort would be next in line for reps but they have both had limited play time in their careers.

Drafting a young talent like Josey Jewell in round two gives the Steelers insurance in the event Ryan Shazier never recovers to play again. Jewell fits the Steeler mold as a hard worker with an attitude and desire that rises above anyone opposite him.

Jewell is not the fastest or most athletic linebacker. However, what he lacks in athleticism, he makes up for it with technique, dedication and heart.

Jewell can play right away but sparingly behind Williams and Bostic. He can take time to learn the system and become an every down linebacker the Steelers need now and in the future.
