How are they using Bud Dupree?

Say what you want about Bud Dupree, he isn’t underperforming, he’s being undervalued. This team drafted one of the quickest edge rushers the league has seen in decades and use him to drop back in coverage.

Even worse than making people think he isn’t meeting his potential, they’re pushing people to say he shouldn’t be on the roster. Like they’re going to find someone else that can defend that pass this well as an outside linebacker.

With Cameron Sutton and Mike Hilton in the slot, there’s no need for T.J. Watt or Bud Dupree to drop back nearly as much as they did last season. This team has two scary outside pass rushers, and they need to take advantage of them.

Dupree can be a double-digit sack player if he’s used the right way. So far, that hasn’t been the case, but we’ve seen flashes when he’s healthy. 2018 leaves zero reason for him to spend time in coverage unless he’s absolutely needed.

Let him find the quarterback. That’s what he’s good at, it’s what he’s getting paid to do and it’s what’s best for this defense. But we won’t know if it’s what the gameplan is until training camp.
